In the luxurious suite, only a small white light was left shining.
Luo Xiyun sat by the window with a book in her hand, clearly engrossed in what she was reading.
There was a small gap left open in the window, and it let the night breeze blow in. A soft howl accompanied it. The curtains fluttered from time to time as the chilly gust wafted through.
She didn’t seem aware of it. She seemed lost in thought every now and then, before looking down again to continue her reading.
“Ring ring!”
The alarm clock suddenly sounded from her cell phone on the coffee table. She moved her eyes away from her book and checked the time on her phone. Her eyes flickered for a moment, and a trace of a frown appeared between her brows.
“Yumeng was right. This matter has to be resolved as soon as possible,” she muttered to herself and switched the phone alarm off. She closed her book and placed it by her bedside.
The title of the book was “The Interpretation of Dreams”.
She pushed the door open and headed towards the elevator. As she approached the corner, she heard a familiar voice. It was her secretary.
Suddenly, she heard a name and stopped in her tracks immediately.
“…I went to look for Chen Xu just now. Guess who I saw in his room?” It was her secretary’s voice.
“Who?” someone asked curiously. Luo Xiyun recognized the person’s voice. It was the department’s accountant.
“Dai Zixin.”
“What? Really?”
“Why would I lie to you? I saw her come out of Chen Xu’s room with my own eyes!”
“So they are in an illicit relationship!”
“Why do you have to put it in such horrible terms? They’re both single! There’s nothing wrong with two single people falling in love.”
“Now that you mention it, Dai Zixin looks very pretty. I heard that she has no lack of suitors in the company. Why would she choose Chen Xu?”
“Who knows?”
A ‘ding’ rang out, signifying the arrival of the elevator, and conversation between the two individuals ended.
Only then did Luo Xiyun walk out.
“Miss Luo.”
Just as the doors of the elevator were about to close, Miss Guo saw out the corner of her eye that Luo Xiyun was approaching, and quickly pressed the doors open.
“Miss Luo,” the other person greeted.
Luo Xiyun nodded her head in acknowledgment and entered the elevator. The two people behind her cautiously took a step back.
Miss Guo didn’t even dare breathe too loudly. She’d been working for Luo Xiyun for close to half a year and was very familiar with her temperament.
She was very strict when it came to work matters, and there was no room for errors, no matter how small. When it came to lecturing subordinates, she pulled no punches. If anyone chanced upon her when she was in a bad mood, the outcome would be even worse.
Because of this, Miss Guo had developed the ability to identify Luo Xiyun’s mood and read her emotions.
Now, she noticed that Luo Xiyun was in a terrible mood, and couldn’t help lamenting inwardly to herself. Who could have offended Her Royal Highness this time?
Fortunately, Luo Xiyun wasn’t one to lash out at the innocent for no reason. As long as it wasn’t a work error, there was no danger.
Therefore, at such a time, the subordinates had to take infinite care to ensure that no mistakes were made.
The other person standing beside Miss Guo possessed the ability to discern this as well. When she felt the air in the elevator become oppressive, she naturally grew nervous as well.
“Ding!” The elevator finally reached the ground floor, and the doors opened. Both women heaved a sigh of relief.
All their colleagues were already there. They were the last two to arrive.
Once everyone had gathered, the hotel staff led the group to the hot springs behind the hotel.
The hotel was on the mountainside and had been built around the natural hot springs. There, at the back, was an outdoor hot springs bathhouse.
This was Chen Xu’s first time coming to a hot spring. After changing into his swimming shorts, he walked out of the changing room covered in a white bathrobe. A cold gust of wind blew, and he shivered.
Perhaps it was because they were up on the mountain, but the temperature outdoors was a little lower. It was below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
The entire bathhouse was shrouded in a layer of orange light. Four walls surrounded it, isolating the area from the external environment.
The hot spring pool was in the middle and was shaped like the number eight. One side was bigger than the other, and there was no separation in the middle. The water flowed freely between both sides.
Chen Xu couldn’t be bothered to observe the pool in detail. He took off his bathrobe and followed his colleagues into the hot spring.
When he first entered the water, he found the temperature to be a little too hot, but after a while, his body adjusted to the temperature, and it felt especially comfortable.
A dozen young men, all bare from the waist up, leaned against the edge of the pool and chatted with each other.
After ten minutes, seven ladies appeared, fashionably late. They acted differently. When entering the pool, none of them removed their bathrobes and remained modestly attired.
They entered the other smaller pool. The men and women had segregated themselves each in a different pool.
Chen Xu lay on the edge of the pool lazily and leaned his head back. He gazed through a thick layer of mist and looked up into the black sky.
The temperature was exceptionally cold tonight. In this environment, he couldn’t help but think of the last month in the dream and the days he had spent with Luo Xiyun in the freezing world.
Her body had been especially warm—as warm as the feeling of being covered in double goose down quilts.
If the dream world was able to continue going, she would probably have been able to live well even on her own.
She was so strong. Since she had promised that she would do her best to survive, she would definitely have kept her word.
When the snow finally melted, she would be able to drive her car and travel all over.
He imagined Luo Xiyun driving a large truck under the rays of the bright sun, and he felt a sharp twinge in his heart.
At that very moment, in reality, Luo Xiyun wasn’t far off and could be seen as soon as he turned his head.
Alas, he didn’t look over because he knew that the Luo Xiyun in the hot spring was not the one in the dream.
…
Luo Xiyun was immersed in the hot spring, and the hot water strangely intensified her frustrations. She saw everyone absorbed in their own private conversations. It was completely contrary to the purpose of this activity that she had organized, and she glanced at her secretary beside her.
Miss Guo lamented inwardly. From the moment she had entered the hot spring, she had wanted to signal Chen Xu with her eyes. However, he lay on the other side of the pool without looking over. She had no idea if he was deliberately ignoring her.
She recorded this grudge firmly in her mind. Summoning up her courage, she said, “Just soaking in the hot spring is so boring! Why don’t we all play a game together?”
“What shall we play?” someone asked cooperatively.
“Moment of Truth,” Miss Guo replied.
“Sure!” everyone agreed.
Miss Guo was Luo Xiyun’s personal secretary. Many a time, it was she who relayed the boss’s instruction to everyone. Her position in the company was very high, and no one dared to refuse her.
Miss Guo exited the pool and returned a moment later with a bag. She retrieved something that looked like a turntable. On it was written everyone’s name.
She said, “Whoever the turntable picks will have to answer a question, and it has to be answered truthfully. The next person the turntable picks will have the question asked by the previous person.”
“Alright.” When everyone saw how prepared she had come, no one dared to comment otherwise.
The ladies moved over to the bigger pool, and the group of nearly 20 people formed a circle.
Chen Xu finally remembers what Miss Guo had informed him of earlier. He had completely forgotten about it and didn’t give it any further thought. He looked at the turntable and wasn’t surprised to see that Luo Xiyun’s name wasn’t included in it.
“We’ll start now.”
Miss Guo spun the turntable and watched as the dial finally settled on Chen Xu’s name.
Chen Xu groaned inwardly, but had no choice but to cheer up and ask, “Who would like to ask me something?”
Miss Guo said, “Miss Luo, why don’t you ask the question?”
