Chapter 28: It’s My Wife Who Raises The Pigs
She Yuan took out his cell phone and made a call to a friend who ran a farm.
“What’s up? It’s very late.”
“Do you have a farm in the suburbs?”
“Yes. Why do you ask me that?”
“I want to send some pigs to your farm. Please make some room for them.”
Chen Fei felt very puzzled. “Aren’t you a legal worker? Why are you raising pigs now?”
She Yuan answered Chen Fei’s query. “It’s my wife who raises the pigs.”
“Shit! Don’t show off! Think about the single people.”
Chen Fei paused for half a minute before he finally took it in.
“Oh gosh! Yuan, who’s that unfortunate person?”
She Yuan didn’t answer. Chen Fei suddenly had a brainwave, “Is that person your childhood sweetheart?”
She Yuan answered simply, “Yes.”
Chen Fei patted himself on the forehead. “I was always wondering why you had lived like an ascetic monk over the years. Now I see. You were waiting for him, right? You are really a lucky dog. After so many years, he still belongs to you. We used to scare you saying that you would lose your little wife if you went abroad. At that time, you got very angry and beat us up. Now you finally get what you want. Congratulations, Yuan!”
She Yuan replied in a happy tone, “Thank you. Remember to make room for his pigs so that he can get them to your farm.”
Chen Fei gave a ready consent, “No problem. Even if our sister-in-law wants my farm, I will give it to him.”
“Thank you.”
They two had a brief chat before hanging up. Chen Fei had a loose tongue and couldn’t keep anything to himself, so that night all their mutual friends knew that She Yuan had a boyfriend. They all sent text messages to She Yuan, asking about what happened. She Yuan added them to a group chat.
Many people in the group chat didn’t know one another. She Yuan called together all his friend and said, “It’s true that I’m in love.”
After saying that, She Yuan retreated from the group chat. What he said sounded like a bomb exploding in his circle of friends.
She Yuan paid no more attention to them. His life was his own business. He lay down on the bed, opened the photo album near his pillow. It was full of Ruan Bai’s pictures taken in high school. He looked at the pictures for a while and went to sleep. Before falling asleep, he recalled that he had bought a school uniform for Ruan Bai at that time. Maybe in the future he could ask Ruan Bai to wear the school uniform when they had sex.
A few days later, She Yuan went to Ruan Bai’s home early in the morning.
Ruan Bai and his parents were having breakfast when the doorbell rang. With a shrimp dumpling in his mouth, Ruan Bai ran to open the door. At the sight of She Yuan standing outside the door, he closed the door in a reflex action.
In the drawing room, Qi Qiuyu raised her voice and asked, “Bai, who is it?”
Ruan Bai replied at once, “He knocked on the wrong door. Mom, I’m full. Now I’m going for a walk with Dave!”
Qi Qiuyu wanted to say something more, but Ruan Bai had run out of the room. Qi Qiuyu turned to her husband, her face puzzled, and asked, “Is it necessary to walk a pig?” Ruan Changhu shook his head with a smile. Over the years, Ruan Bai had never gone for a walk with Dave early in the morning. But in order not to provoke his wife, Ruan Changhu chose to turn a blind eye to Ruan Bai’s lame lie.
“Let’s get back to breakfast. This dish is iron-rich. You should eat more.” While saying that, he put the food in Qi Qiuyu’s bowl.
She Yuan didn’t dare to knock on the door. With a guilty conscience, he waited quietly outside. After a while Ruan Bai came out.
Ruan Bai slept very well last night, so he was feeling energetic now. He wore a ginger-coloured hoodie, a beige coat, classic-style jeans and white skateboard shoes, looking like an obedient, good student. These clothes were all bought by She Yuan.
She Yuan wore a tailored suit and a black overcoat as usual, having an air of the elite.
They two got into the car. She Yuan helped Ruan Bai fasten the seat-belt and stole a kiss from him. Although Ruan Bai was shy, he kissed Professor She back. Then they looked at each other with loving eyes.
“You have no class today, right?” asked She Yuan.
“Yes! I have only one class a week this term. Where are we going?”
